We are pleased to announce our investment in Area2, a Spain and US-based startup pioneering Neuroconnective AI.

Area2 is on a mission to transform everyday human-device interactions into real-time insights about cognition, motor control, and behavior. The $2.5 million pre-seed round was led by Adara Ventures, with participation from AI Operators Fund, an early-stage AI-focused venture fund, and other strategic investors.

The challenge: AI is powerful but blind

Despite more than $400 billion being invested into AI, most systems today remain "blind" to the human beings behind the screen.

A majority of AI interfaces treat every user the same, ignoring signals of focus, fatigue, or stress that shape a user's performance and decision-making. The result is shallow personalization, billions wasted on abandoned tools, and disappointing ROI for enterprises, with 74% of AI projects never making it beyond the pilot stage.

This "perception gap" represents a massive lost opportunity. If AI doesn't understand how people feel and function in the moment, it can't deliver the personalized support needed to enhance how each person works, stays safe, and thrives.

Introducing Area2: Neuroconnective AI for real-time human insights

Born out of a decade of research at MIT and backed by over 20 peer-reviewed publications and six patents, Area2 deciphers the micro-patterns in how people type, gesture, and interact with devices. These Human-Device Interactions (HDI) reveal subtle but meaningful signals about a person's cognitive clarity, attention, energy, stress, and motor control.

Area2's plug-and-play SDK can be integrated into any text input field across web, iOS or Android with just 10 lines of code. With just a few seconds of a user typing, Area2 can analyze keystrokes and begin instantly generating perceptual insights, without a learning period or any other set up delays. This invisible sensing layer provides continuous and secure neuroperformance profiles without the need for surveys, wearables, or added burden.

Area2's technology has already mapped over 10 million neuroconnected profiles and more than 1,000 performance dimensions, creating the world's most comprehensive HDI dataset.

Led by co-founders Dr. Teresa Arroyo-Gallego (CEO) and Mark Pascarella, the team combines deep scientific expertise with product experience.

Previously, Teresa was the Chief Data Scientist at nQ Medical Inc and held various roles at MIT and Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. She has a background in electronic systems, bioengineering, and telecommunications, and specializes in using digital devices and computer vision for medical applications, including motor function quantification and diagnostics.

Mark Pascarella is a seasoned executive with previous experience as the co-founder of Kendall Square Sciences and director at Petram Technologies. He also co-founded nQ Medical, led Hootsuite's Analytics business, and served as CEO of uberVU and Gotuit Media.

Uncovering hidden signals for healthcare and research

Area2 has its roots in more than a decade of neurological and biomedical research, demonstrating that the way people interact with everyday devices, from keystrokes to touchscreen gestures, carries hidden signals about brain and motor function.

Subtle changes in how someone types, such as press and release times, flight times between keys, or the consistency of tap precision, can indicate shifts in fine motor control, reaction speed, or cognitive load. These micro-patterns are imperceptible to humans but can be quantified through Area2's Human-Device Interaction (HDI) modeling.

The platform applies advanced machine learning techniques to this raw interaction data, beginning with pre-processing and source transformation that harmonizes diverse inputs into standardized "digital signatures." From there, models trained on millions of sessions can extract features that map onto clinically relevant domains such as motor coordination, memory, attention, and stress regulation. Area2 can then generate continuous digital biomarkers that can be tracked over time.

For clinicians and researchers, this means being able to detect conditions such as Parkinson's, ALS, or Alzheimer's much earlier than traditional assessments, monitor disease progression between visits, and adjust therapies dynamically.

What's next for Area2

With this new funding, Area2 plans to expand pilots into enterprise deployments, grow its commercial team, and continue advancing its SDK and analytics capabilities. The technology is designed to be horizontal infrastructure, with potential applications across other sectors as well:

  • Education & training: help adapt learning and teamwork in real time by sensing readiness, motivation, and cognitive load, ensuring educators can optimize group productivity and collaboration across teams.
  • Risk & safety: help identify fatigue, stress, or impaired decision-making before incidents occur in high-stakes environments.
  • Productivity & analytics: help businesses go beyond clickstream data to understand how users actually experience content and products in real time, enabling personalization that reduces friction and improves engagement.

The Adara view: Unlocking AI's human dimension

We believe the next leap in AI will come not from larger models, but from systems that truly understand and adapt to humans. Area2 is pioneering this frontier, transforming invisible signals from our everyday digital interactions into actionable insights that power personalization, safety, and health outcomes.

We're thrilled to partner with Teresa, Mark, and the Area2 team as they build the missing perception layer for AI.
