More imaging data than clinicians can read

Medical imaging produces more detailed data every year and plays a growing role in diagnosing, staging and monitoring disease. The number of specialists reading those scans has not grown at the same pace. Much of the work still depends on visual assessment, one study at a time, creating delays and variability precisely when clinicians need faster, more consistent answers.

Turning scans into measurable data

Quibim approaches a medical image the way a laboratory approaches a blood test: by extracting measurable biomarkers rather than relying on visual interpretation alone. Its QP-Insights platform connects imaging data, AI models and clinical users, allowing hospitals to deploy applications in areas such as prostate, brain, liver and musculoskeletal imaging within the radiology workflow. The objective is not to replace the image or the clinician's judgment, but to add a consistent quantitative layer: measurements that can be compared across time, patients and sites, supporting earlier detection, standardized reporting and more precise treatment decisions.

From clinical care to drug development

The same imaging biomarkers can also support clinical trials. Pharmaceutical companies need to identify suitable patients, measure treatment response and compare outcomes across hospitals and countries; manual interpretation introduces variability at each step. Quibim applies its models to patient selection, trial endpoints and treatment monitoring, creating two connected routes into the market. Hospital deployment provides workflow integration, specialist feedback and real-world use, while biopharma partnerships extend the same technology into research and drug development.

From a hospital research spin-off to a global imaging AI company

Quibim was founded in 2012 as a spin-out from the La Fe Health Research Institute in Valencia. Since then, it has expanded across Europe and the United States, working with hospitals, research institutions and biopharma companies. Its origins still shape the product: imaging science developed inside clinical workflows, not software adapted to healthcare later.

Led by one of the researchers who spun it out

Quibim is led by Dr. Ángel Alberich-Bayarri, who co-founded the company with Professor Luis Martí-Bonmatí while both were working on imaging biomarker research at La Fe. Alberich-Bayarri continues to serve as CEO, keeping the company's scientific origins close to its commercial development.

When we invested

We first partnered with Quibim in 2020 through an €8 million round that supported product development and international expansion. It was our first investment in what would become our Deep Domain Computation thesis. In January 2025, we returned for Quibim's $50 million Series A, led by Asabys and Buenavista Equity Partners. UI Investissements, GoHub Ventures and CDTI Innovación joined as new investors, alongside existing backers Amadeus Capital Partners, APEX Ventures, Partech and Leadwind, and individual investors including Tony Fadell, founder of Nest and inventor of the iPod, and Dr. Jonathan Milner, founder of Abcam. The round supports further product development and growth in the United States.

Why we backed Quibim

Medical imaging is a domain where better models are not enough. The product must earn clinical trust, meet regulatory standards and fit into existing care and research workflows. Quibim has built across all three. We backed the company because its advantage comes from the combination of imaging science, proprietary data and real clinical deployment, the foundations of durable, expert-grade intelligence.
